Carl Benz The Inventor of Automobile

Karl Friedrich Benz is a Germany scholar who is known as the inventor of the automobile with using gasoline fuel. Although at the same time Gottlieb Daimler who paired with Wilhelm Maybach also worked researching the engine with gasoline fuel as well, Benz first complete the discovery and patented the invention in 1879.

In 1885, Karl Benz builds Motorwagen, the first car to be sold commercially. The car is a car with a four-stroke engine with gasoline fuel design results. Benz is also the inventor of the automobile components such as ignition, spark plugs, car transmission system, radiator water and carburetor.

Karl Benz was born with the name of Karl Friedrich Michael Vaillant, in Karlsruhe Germany. Benz was 2 years old, when his father (Johann George Benz) died from an accident and for this reason the name of Karl Friedrich Michael Vaillant renamed Karl Friedrich Benz to remind him of his father. Although at that time the family lived in poverty, his mother insisted on providing a good education for Benz. At the age of 9 years, Benz showed an interest on science. Benz continued his studies at the Polytechnic University of Karlsruhe under the guidance of Ferdinand Redtenbacher known as the man who pioneered the engine department (mechanical engineering) at the university. At the age of 15 years, Benz successfully passed the entrance examimnation for undergraduate of machine at the University of Karlsruhe, where Benz graduated from university at the age of 19 years. At that time, while riding his bike, Benz is always thinking about the concept of a car, a horse-drawn carriage without horses.

In 1871, at the age of 27, Benz joined with his friend opened a workshop in Mannheim, which also sells construction equipment. But the workshop suffered a loss because of his friend proved to be unreliable and the government was forced to seize Benz’s business assets.

Benz continues to develop new engines to earn income. In 1878, Benz started working on his inventions and attempt to patent it. First patented invention is a two-cycle engine, the next in a row he also patented the ignition system, spark plugs, carburetor, clutch, gear transmission and radiator water.

In 1883, Benz opened a new company that manufactures industrial machinery. The company rapidly evolved into a large and started to produce a gasoline engine. The success of the company gives the opportunity for Benz to realize his dream, the carriage without horses. When Motorwagen built and tested, many people who sneered as the first car is often hit a wall because it is very difficult to control. But after Motorwagen was refined and start tested on the road, people’s attention became focused on the cart without the horse. Motorwagen became the forerunner of the modern cars we drive today.
